More Information On: Teen Leadership
Organized in 2000 and graduating its first class back in 2001, Teen Leadership Cherokee is designed to develop the knowledge and leadership skills of Cherokee County tenth graders so they may confidently become our leaders of tomorrow. Participation in Teen Leadership Cherokee will demonstrate that in this transient society, a diverse group of people working together, rather than individually, can be effective in solving the problems faced by the community.
To accomplish this mission, the Teen Leadership Cherokee Program offers a series of programs that explore:
- Community Development
- Personal Development – Team Building, Public Speaking, Personality Types
- Economic Development Initiatives
- Financial Management
- Entrepreneurship
Participants will develop a sense of community and will discover the impact of teamwork upon their peers, their schools and Cherokee County.
The young men and women selected to participate in Teen Leadership Cherokee must attend school in Cherokee County and/or live in Cherokee County, demonstrate outstanding qualities as potential leaders and possess the desire to effect change in their community. Each class will be representative of the diversity within Cherokee County, and will include a majority of Cherokee County School District students along with private or home-schooled students. Participants will be selected based on information provided in a written application, personal interview and/or by information provided from a personal reference. Participants’ academic achievements and responsibilities – working after school, active participation in school functions or membership in other organizations – will be reviewed during the selection process. The class is limited to 20 participants.
Application for the Teen Leadership Class of 2009 will be accepted from August 25, 2008 until September 26, 2008.
