More Information On: Leadership Cherokee

WHAT IS LEADERSHIP CHEROKEE?
Leadership Cherokee is a program of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, which seeks out existing and emerging leaders from diverse backgrounds and offers them an educational experience to expose them to various aspects of the community.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
The Leadership Cherokee Steering Committee desires to select a diversified group in terms of race, sex, and occupation. Individuals from business, social services, government, cultural, and educational organizations will comprise the class. Class members must live and/or work in Cherokee County.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF PARTICIPANTS?
Over the nine-month long program, Leadership Cherokee participants are required to attend an orientation, a retreat, seven class sessions, a Community Service Day & participate in the planning and executing of a Community Project. Commitment to 100% attendance is required of each participant.

WHAT IS THE COST OF LEADERSHIP CHEROKEE?
Tuition for each participant is $675 for a Chamber member or $800 for a non-Chamber member. (Non-Chamber member tuition includes a one-year individual Chamber membership.) Participants are responsible for paying his/her own tuition or making arrangements for payment by his/her employer and/or a sponsoring organization. The fee must be remitted prior to the January orientation. Tuition covers meals, lodging, honorariums for speakers, a graduation banquet, and miscellaneous administrative costs.

HOW IS ONE ACCEPTED INTO LEADERSHIP CHEROKEE?
An individual must be nominated for the program by a firm, an organization, or individual who submits the form included in this brochure. Following the nomination period, August 1 - October 1, nominees will be asked to complete a detailed application to be submitted to the Chamber office by the specified date. All applicants will then be interviewed by the Leadership Steering Committee. The Steering Committee will then make recommendations for or against acceptance into the Leadership Cherokee Program.

LEADERSHIP CHEROKEE -- PURPOSE
If Cherokee County is to achieve its potential, the people must be aware of the social, economic, educational and governmental needs of the community. The participants profit from getting to know each other and from the formal and informal exchange of ideas and experiences. They gain knowledge from the overall program on many subjects, thus preparing them for a more active leadership role in the community.

As strong leadership is a prime ingredient in the continuing development of any community, the Chamber's Leadership Cherokee program educates existing and emerging leaders. In its 20th year, Leadership Cherokee includes over 350 Alumni. Questions should be directed to the Chamber at 770-345-0400.
